Lesson : Don't Fear To Serve Double Faults

Many players try to avoid them. Here's what you should do instead.

1. Be Confident In 1995, Boris Becker promised me a big bonus if he won a top-level clay title. In the Monte Carlo final, he had match point against Thomas Muster in the fourth-set tiebreaker. Becker went for a 122-m.p.h. second serve and missed by two inches.

He lost the fifth set at love, and there went my bonus. But Becker did the right thing: His serve was his biggest weapon, and he didn’t hold back. The second serve is a confidence shot, and no one hit it more confidently than Becker. That’s the attitude you need to strive for; you can only get there by learning to accept double faults.

Lesson : Question About Getting Started In Tennis

If you’re thinking about giving the game a try, good for you: Tennis is a sport you will enjoy for a lifetime. Here are the answers to most common questions beginners ask about getting into the game.

1. What kind of racquet should I purchase? There are many great options available, and most retailers will allow you to test racquets before you purchase one.

Rick Macci, a U.S. Professional Tennis Association-certified master professional who has trained the Williams sisters and Andy Roddick, among others, says that first-time buyers should look for a frame that has the proper grip size, depending on the size of your hand, and the correct length and weight, depending on your age and strength.

Ana Dan Jelena Tidak Sefahaman

DUA bekas pemain nombor satu dunia dari Serbia, negara kecil Balkan yang hanya mempunyai 10 juta penduduk, Jelena Jankovic dan Ana Ivanovic masih tercari-cari identiti sebenar mereka. Pendek kata, mereka mengalami krisis identiti.

Kedua-dua pemain pernah sekejap menduduki takhta permainan wanita. Namun kedua-duanya kini merudum, bergelut untuk menemui permainan sebenar mereka.

“Ia melukakan, saya perlu katakan, tapi ia satu proses,” kata Ana, 22, yang baru-baru ini mengambil khidmat bekas jurulatih Steffi Graf, Heinz Gunthardt, untuk membantunya menemui kembali sentuhan emas.

Injured Del Potro to defend his US Open title

US Open champion Juan Martin Del Potro could defend his title next month after making a quicker than expected recovery from injury. The Argentine underwent wrist surgery earlier this year but may make a surprise return at Flushing Meadow.

The US Tennis Association said that Del Petro had been included on the list of entrants for the event which starts on August 30. "Juan Martin Del Potro ... is expected to return to Grand Slam competition after missing the French Open and Wimbledon earlier this year," the USTA said in a statement.

The Argentine beat Roger Federer in five sets in 2009 to capture his first Grand Slam title but this season has been ruined by his wrist problem. Del Potro played in the Australian Open but pulled out of a series of tournaments after that and announced in May he was undergoing surgery and would almost certainly miss the three remaining Grand Slams.

Lleyton Hewitt is Getting Ready for the US Open 2010

ATLANTA, Georgia: Lleyton Hewitt is back in his comfort zone this week as third seed at the ATP Atlanta Tennis Championships, with six weeks of hard court tennis to go before the US Open.

“I’m quite comfortable on the hard courts,” said the former number one. “I don’t think it’s too early to start. I’ll take next week and one more off before the Open (which begins August 30).

The 29-year-old Australian is seeded behind Americans Andy Roddick and John Isner. Atlanta returned to the ATP calendar this season after a nine-year absence in the wake of a financial deal with the bankrupt Indianapolis event.

The Australian, now based with his family just a flight away in the Bahamas, is keen to put the confidence he gained from a title victory on grass last month in Halle, Germany – where he beat Roger Federer – to work during the gruelling cement season.

“Winning Halle gave me a lot of confidence, especially after beating Roger on grass in a final,” said the Aussie. “The top players like him all tend to play their best at the business end of a tournament.”
Number 30 Hewitt’s last match was the Wimbledon fourth round, where he lost to Novak Djokovic.

“But it’s once again business as usual,” he wrote. “I’ve been training in the heat for the last week and preparing for the American swing towards the US Open.”

Hewitt is planning a full Grand Slam buildup, with his August schedule comprising tournaments in Washington, Toronto, and Cincinnati and then a week off prior to the Open. “I’m hoping for a good run, I’ve got a lot of matches under my belt right now.”

Wilson K Six One Tour 90 (K 6.1 Tour 90)

Quicker through the contact zone and offering a larger sweetspot, this is by far the most forgiving Tour 90 that we had the pleasure of hitting. Some subtle updates to the shaft design and a more open feel to the stringbed sets this version apart from its nCode and ProStaff Tour 90 predecessors and provides a closer performance to its ProStaff 85 roots.

From the baseline our we noted a very solid response from this racquet. We found the racquet to come around a tad quicker, allowing for even more pace, depth and penetration on groundstrokes. At net the KSix-One feels rock solid and very precise.

The sweetspot feels larger here than with previous Tour 90s, and our team found good targeting. On serve there found plenty of control. Pace and court penetration come from the player's ability to utilize the racquet's mass. The stringbed offers plenty of bite and we found some noticeable hop to kick serves.

All in all a very impressive racquet that is a must hit for 5.0+ level players.

Head size : 90 sq inch
Length : 27 inches
Compositions : 80% karophite black & 20% kevlar
Power level : Low
String tension : 50-60 pounds

Biography of Andy Murray

Andrew "Andy" Murray ( born 15 May 1987 ) is a Scottish professional tennis player and current British No.1. He is currently ranked No.4 in the world, but was ranked No.2 from 17 August 2009 to 31 August 2009, making him the highest-ranked British male player since Fred Perry.

Murray achieved a top 10 ranking by the Association of Tennis Professionals for the first time on 16 April 2007. He has reached two Grand Slam finals, the 2008 US Open and the 2010 Australian Open, finishing runner-up to Roger Federer both times.

Playing Style : Murray is best described as a defensive counter-puncher, his greatest strengths include solid groundstrokes with low error rate, the uncanny ability to anticipate and react, and his transition from defence to offence with extraordinary speed which enables him to hit winners from defensive positions.

Early in his career, most of his main tour wins came on hard courts. However, he claimed to prefer clay courts, because of his training in Barcelona as a junior player.

Equipment : Murray is sponsored by Head for his racquets, and uses the new Head Youtek Radical Pro. He wore Fred Perry apparel until late 2009, when he signed a five-year £10m contract with Adidas, which he began wearing at the start of the 2010 season.

Lesson : Speed Up a Slow Racquet to Return Serve

The Problem You’re slow to react when returning first serves. It could be because you’re not moving quickly enough once the ball leaves your opponent’s racquet, or you’re taking too big a swing. The result is late contact and a shaky return, putting you at a disadvantage right from the start.

The Solution The key to speeding up your racquet on the return is to combine your shoulder turn and racquet take-back into one movement. To practice, get in your ready position and have a partner hit serves toward your forehand but deliberately into the net.

Because you know where the serve is heading, you can jump-start your motion and have your racquet back and ready before the ball even hits the net. Then just shadow your swing.

Next, have your partner hit serves in the net to either your forehand or backhand side. Continue to practice getting your racquet back before the ball hits the net, and then shadow your swing. Finally, have your partner serve over the net to either side. You’ll be amazed how quickly you react to both forehand and backhand returns.
